I feel like this is one of my best shot’s in a long while, taken of my favorite subject, my wife. I struggle with portraiture in general but am really pleased with the results of the C/Y Zeiss 50mm f/1.7 here.

One up, one down at the Fashion Show Mall on the Las Vegas Strip. Got to have the camera with for those times when boredom strikes. I took a lot of shots that day. Keeper rate was very low but boredom was conquered!

It’s amazing the difference in the between two shots when you face the other way from the sun. I fluffed the exposure on this making it a nightmare to scan but was determined to post it seeing as I waited an eternity for the light to change, lol. Ironically, the shot I linked to was taken whilst I was waiting and turned out much better. C’est la vie!

First Blurb Book, originally uploaded by photomat-.

Something that has been on the to do list for quite a while now has been to make a book on Blurb. Back in April my wifes parents visited Vegas so we took them to California for 3 days, visiting Newport Beach, Huntington Beach and Seal Beach. This short book features some of the shots I took on that trip, all with the Yashica Electro 35GT.

I always find it interesting that shots you would not show on their own stand up very well when contained with in a common theme. The other interesting thing is I learnt there is only one party getting rich off of Blurb books and that is Blurb themselves. Nickel and dime is the phrase that comes to mind. Either way, it’s a great service for getting something personal made and I can see it being a good source for gifts now :)

Take a look and let me know what you think, the whole book is available in preview. Constructive criticism always welcome.

This shot was taken with a Helios 40-2, an 85mm f/1.5 lens by lichtmaedel over on Flickr. This is definitely on the want list. Take a look at the Flickr Search, sorted by interestingness, to see the amazing sharpness and bokeh this lens renders. It has a character unlike any other lens I have seen personally.

Required Reading, originally uploaded by photomat-.

Possibly my favorite shot this year. My wife was shopping in this store, I spotted the sofa and decided to rest. The pile of books before me was indeed a bonus. I probably read a third of this book whilst waiting. Despite being as much into photography as I am, I know little about famous photographers like Annie Leibovitz. She strikes me as an interesting character, quite direct and simplistic in her approach. This book is definitely fascinating reading and viewing. I might have to go back to finish it :)

After some deliberation, it was time to say farewell. I am not one for allowing something to sit unused, so off it went to a good home. The funds will buy some Zeiss glass for my Contax 167MT and C/Y to EOS adapter. I need to shoot more digital and Zeiss on EOS will be just the ticket to motivate me :)

Suddenly…, originally uploaded by photomat-.

I’m not half the man I used to be.

Hands down my favorite location to shoot in Las Vegas. This is a shot I had forgot about from a couple of years back, taken with the Yashica D I used to own. Shot on Ektar 100, I don’t recall the settings but if you click through and look at the full size shot on Flickr, there is some nice detail in the concrete. The Yashica took a pretty decent shot at f/8 and higher with the Yashikor lens. If I ever came across a cheap enough copy with the Yashinon, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick it up. The extra element in the Yashinon taking lens gives you that extra bit of sharpness.
